Skagit Valley Tulip Festival 2013

Published by

on

Each April hundreds of thousands of visitors attend the month-long Skagit Valley Tulip Festival in the NW corner of Washington State.  While words on a page can’t fully describe the feeling of being surrounded by millions of blooming flower bulbs I hope my pictures below share some of the unforgettable views found in the fields.  If you are planning to visit the festival remember April weather in the Pacific Northwest brings a bit of everything and the day we chose to go saw snow, rain, wind, sun and a lot of mud.  I’m happy we packed our rain boots!

Tulips are such a pretty flower, and your photos are gorgeous. Unfortunately, our tulips never stick around for long–deer come and eat them. Even if my husband sprays them with whatever it is that’s supposed to keep deer away, they still come. And the bunnies too. 🙂

We can’t grow them in our yard either – squirrels eat every bulb I plant! I’m glad you like the pictures. 🙂

I’m glad you like them! Yes it was so wet I am still scraping mud off of our boots… but worth every minute. 🙂

Wow! I’ve always associated photos like these with Holland. Never knew tulips were grown in such profusion in the States. I suppose if I’d thought about it….but in Europe Holland is the tulip capital. See your weather is much the same as ours.

Our weather is very similar to Holland and the tulips love it. Thanks for visiting today!

This is absolutely beautiful! I live in the Philippines where it’s hot, so we can’t grow tulips. I can just imagine how it must feel to actually see this. Great post!

Oh my gosh, how beautiful! I thought it was Pella, Iowa. Ok, or Holland 😉

Is there a cultural event and/or community associated with the festival?

I’m glad you like the pictures! The tulip fields are in the middle of a large farming community and they have tulip themed events through the month of April that are really popular.

Wow! It’s a technicolor tulip explosion! We go to Woodburn every year, but I heard about Skagit for the first time this year. Your post is inspiring me to get up there, hopefully next year. Beautiful pics!

What beautiful pictures. What happens when the tulips have lived out their time. With so many fields I cant imagine what you do with them.

The farmers make their income by selling the bulbs. The flowers you see this year will be processed and sold as bulbs and are great advertisements with so many people visiting the festival. 🙂 Thanks for visiting and commenting today!

I guess it is cheaper to go to Washington state to see fields of tulips than flying to Amsterdam. We went yesterday to Holland, Michigan thinking we’ll see fields of tulips. But when we got there we were so greatly disappointed we didn’t even want to pay the $10 entrance fee. I thought it was a rip off.

I must say though that the trip to Holland Tulip Festival is still worth it because it is not just tulips – they offer a lot more!

I would love to see Amsterdam but you’re right, a trip to Washington is much cheaper. 🙂 I’m happy the Holland Festival had other fun activities besides the fields.

Yes, as a child, I went to a tulip festival in Holland. I think I was too young to really appreciate it though

Wow! What beautiful blooms! We visited the area a few years ago for work, but didn’t have nearly enough time to explore! Now that we see this, we can’t wait to get back even more!
