Travel Theme: Flow

Alisa’s newest travel theme is Flow and I have some fun photos of a very chilly but exciting morning in December when Ryan and I grabbed our warm coats and went to the beach to experience a Winter King Tide.

King Tides occur when the sun and moon align increasing the gravitational pull on the oceans. King Tides frequently happen in the winter and this one on December 29th, 2011 arrived at the same time as a strong windstorm. If you would like to learn more about King Tides the Washington State Department of Ecology has a great page about this phenomena and their Photo Initiative.

The wind strength increased while we were watching the tide roll in.

The area behind Ryan is usually a sandy beach but the King Tide covered it to the seawall.
