Weekly Photo Challenge: Layers

Layers. Layers can reveal, conceal, and make something more complex. They can vary in size, texture, color, or functionality. Each layer can have its own story, meaning, or purpose. They can overlap, blend, or be distinctly separate. A layer doesn’t have to be a part of a single object but can even be a slice of a multifaceted image or scene.

Layers

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted an update about our front yard project but we are still working hard and I’m happy to say we have a good chance of finishing by the end of the year.

Happy was not one of my words though when this load of sod arrived by flat-bed truck in early September.  My worries increased after I asked the delivery driver how long he thought it would take us to lay the rolls.  He told me we should be able to get through the pallet in about four hours but we’d have to move fast.

We had one very long, dirty evening to lay all the sod in our newly terraced upper and lower front yard and I couldn’t believe how heavy  every single roll was.  The layers looked kind of pretty before we started, which is why I took this picture, but after the first few minutes all I wanted to do was turn my back and walk away.  Sadly that wasn’t an option.

When I saw this picture my back started to hurt. 🙂 Instant gratification comes at a heafty (no pun intended) toll. I pondered sod when we put in a new lawn but the seed was a fraction of the cost an only weighed 35 pounds.

I forgot to say the picture is amazing. Many different layers woven together.

We seeded the lawn at our last house and I really wanted to do it again this time. Unfortunately we knew a couple of rain storms were coming in and I was afraid the new top soil (and seed) would wash away so we ordered sod. I hurt for days!

These layers must have been “pretty” hard work! I hope to see the same picture in color some day in your future posts. Black and White has a rustic feel to it. Good choice!

It was a very hard night! I’ll look for a color picture to put up in another post. 🙂

I was gonna ask how the landscaping project was going. Pretty awesome that the sod is down! (But I know that must’ve been a ton of hard work.) Still, so worth it, though, right? Hope everything is looking incredible!

Thanks Nancy. :). Most of the painting is done and we have a few windows left to trim then paint. Next is closing the backside of the carport now garage and building the steps to the front door. This weekend though we have to shovel 8 yards of crushed rock. My arms hurt already! It looks so much better though so it’s worth it!

The b&w picture of the sod rolls is very artistic. I had to look at it a second time to figure out what it was.

We re- sodded a former back yard. It is hard work to lay it out and then keep it alive. We did have to keep our dogs off of it.

    It’s a great photo.
