iPhone Monday 1-6-14

The first Monday of the month means it’s time to focus on nature as part of Lens and Pen by Sally’s Phoneography Monday Challenge.  The Whatcom Falls beavers have been working long hours to bring this old tree down and  even though there is a nice note from the park rangers attached to the side of the trunk asking everyone to please leave the tree alone I couldn’t resist a quick photo.

*Updated to add a link showing how big the tree is: https://www.facebook.com/nwframeofmind  Thanks for the great question Princess Deloso!

It’s several feet around and just above the area pictured it splits into two trunks. I have another photo from farther away that I’ll post to FB soon for a better idea of the size. 🙂

Updated to add a link to the full size photo: https://www.facebook.com/nwframeofmind It’s a pretty big tree!

I’m thankful that tree wasn’t near my property during the ice storm. 🙂

What a glorious tribute to nature–those beavers know how to carve a tree. Happy Phoneography Monday.

I wonder at what point it’s going to fall. That will make a major dam! Happy Phoneography Monday.

I am too. It’s so perfect it almost looks staged but this is how we found it!

At first I thought you might have used a photo editor to mirror the image. But as I studied it I was able to find minor difference. Studying this picture reminded me of the “Find Waldo” books. This is truly an amazing picture! You should consider entering it into a photo competition.

What a different photo (in the best possible way!) You have to admire the beavers’ persistence!!

I stared at the photo for a bit before I read the text, and I could NOT figure out what it was! I thought maybe it was in a cave. Amazing beavers and their symmetrical gnawing!

Thanks Perpetua. I’m trying not to feel bad for the tree since the beavers need to have something to chew on but if humans had done this in the park I would be mad.

I hear you, Lisa. I would like to see humans to chew on this though. 😛

Thanks for sharing the link to your FB page with a larger view of the tree. Nature is awesome – even beavers gnawing a tree. I doubt the sign to leave the tree alone means you can’t photograph it. You shot a great picture 🙂
