Travel Theme: Dry

Dry

I’ve found the only sure way to enjoy home-grown Pacific Northwest flowers in January is to cut an extra bouquet or two and set them aside for drying. I have the best luck with late season Hydrangeas and if kept out of direct sun their deep purple, pink and blue pigments can last for years.

This brought back happy memories – I have dried hydrangeas in the past.

Good to know you enjoy Alsace wine – very underrated in my opinion. And when it was a sensible price, many years ago, I had the good fortune to drink the apogee of Alsace Riesling…..Clos Ste Hune. Alas, it retails for over £100 sterling per bottle now – way, way out of my reach.

Beautiful photo of the Hydrangea! I love having them drying too. Once I made a big picture of dried petals and put it behind glass on the wall. It lasted in shape and colours for about ten years!

Yes, yes, yes–One must pump their spirit and dried hydrangea will certainly help.

Absolutely Sally, mid January needs some brightening and flowers always provide a much needed spark. 🙂

Yes the deep reds and blues are wonderful when they start to fade, I only have a white one, but even that turns pink as the flowers get older. All very brown now I’m afraid!

Thanks Nancy! If you pick them when the stems start to harden in early fall they will have the best chance of successfully drying with out curling up too much.

Love dried hydrangeas. They dry then fade to such a wonderful range of colours.

Sometimes I like the dried colors better than the fresh. 🙂
