Romance

As part of Alisa’s Weekly Travel Theme: Romance I’m sharing a well-loved photo my husband’s Grandparents as a young, engaged couple in the early 1920’s.  They married soon after and had four children starting with my father-in-law  and followed soon after by three beautiful sisters.  I’m sorry I never got a chance to meet Joe and Bess but am happy we have plenty of stories and a few treasured photos to keep their memories alive in our home.

This is such a beautiful photo, Lisa. You can feel the love, even though their backs are to us. 🙂

What a wonderful old photograph! You are lucky to have it. I treasure the old photos of my grandparents. They help make real a time and place that seem just out of reach to me.

Thanks D’Arcy! I feel very lucky that both sides of my family kept so many photos. Now if I could just identify everyone…

What a great photo – unusual to have them not posed and smiling at the camera, yet their affection is quite tangible. Beautiful!

I love the photo, but I’m drooling over her coat. So elegant.

I think the coat is wonderful too. 🙂 Sadly it wasn’t in the box with the photos…

What a gorgeous old photo, I can feel their love and the ease of each others company. Makes me think of the simple joys of simpler times, when we wanted less and were happy more easily….despite the challenges:-)

Thanks Seonaid. I agree with your thoughts about simpler times and simple joys. Challenges were there but so was happiness and picnics. 🙂

Old photos truly are a treasure – and this is a wonderfully natural shot, looks like they are going to have a picnic under those trees. And I agree about that coat 🙂

Thanks LD, yes we have several photos of their faces but they are all very stiff and posed. This is the only one I can find that feels like a relaxed, natural moment.

I adore the photo. It’s classic of that time period. The clothing is wonderful. I’m sure their romance was, too. GREAT entry for Ailsa’s challenge.
