Travel Theme: Misty

Misty

I love living by the waterfront with easy access to the beachย but our proximity to Puget Soundย also brings plentyย of misty daysย . ย In the fall we can spendย weeks at a time wrapped in thick fogย and even though I know the trees are turning brilliantย shades ofย red and yellow and that the sky is bright blue above the fog line everything around us is muted, pale and quiet.

Both of these photos are fromย the same dayย in October, 2013. ย The first view is what greeted us as we walked intoย toย the park and the second was ourย surprise as the 10 day stretch of fog finally lifted justย before sunset. ย Some of you might remember the bright image below from my Wordless Wednesday: ย 10-23-13 post.

Wordless Wednesday 10-23-13

I like to think this kind of view is our reward for making it thorough the long, foggy days of October.

I love the differences in these perspectives, Lisa. One old. One new. Same shot.

Thanks Andra, it was an amazing change in such a short period of time. We even felt lighter after the long, dark stretch. ๐Ÿ™‚

Both beautiful – it must have been such a relief when the fog finally left! We are just getting into autumn and foggy mornings, but the afternoons are still quite warm and sunny. My favourite time of year.

It felt amazing to see the light again! It always surprises me how heavy so many days of fog can feel but it’s nice to know you are starting your favorite time of year. ๐Ÿ™‚

Beautiful shots and I love the fog. To me it takes the edge of off reality and the entire world look like a fantasy land.

That’s a great description Ruth, everything does take on a fantasy look in this weather.

Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed these photos. :). It was really interesting to see familiar views change so much in such a short time.

Loved both fall photos. I like how they’re both different. The first is sepia-like and feels quite cold. The second just radiates warmth with warm hues. There’s always so many different colours that you can get in fall photos. Good job ๐Ÿ™‚

Somehow I always think of Seattle and the west coast islands in fog and mist – must be a movie I watched! A good challenge for you Lisa ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks Jude, you’re right I have a lot of misty pictures in my archives. ๐Ÿ™‚ Did you ever read or see Snow Falling on Cedars? I’ve always thought the cover photography perfectly captures our foggy days and the author lives on Bainbridge Island, a short ferry ride from Seattle.

I’m terrible with them too and the only reason this one actually stuck is because I love the cover image. ๐Ÿ™‚

I kind love the romanticism of the foggy shot even more than the clear one, Lisa. Although I’m sure you enjoyed a reprieve from the fog when it lifted.

Thanks Nancy, I’m glad you like the first one. ๐Ÿ™‚ It was such a relief to see color again I rushed to post the second photo and left the foggy one to sit on my computer… good thing I didn’t hit delete.

Both shots are really lovely, LIsa. The sky in the first one looks surreal, with those trees silhouetted against it.

Beautiful pics of the majestic Pacific Northwest. I have fond memories of those type of days you are speaking of here, from when I lived by the Puget Sound myself a few years back. Oh how I miss it!
