Glow

Maybe I’m just looking for another opportunity to post a tulip picture but I can’t stop looking atΒ these glowing red tulips under a stormy spring sky.

Yesterday I drove a very excited Ryan to Anacortes, WA to join a group of 18 middle school kids and 6 scientists for an adventure they will never forget. Β This lucky group will spend the next 4 days sailing a 62′ boat through the San Juan Islands while studying marine biology. Β The kids have been meeting for three monthsΒ planning this trip under the direction of Salish Seas Expeditions and during their time on the water they will learn how to read marine charts, how to Β work as a team and sail the boat, Β as well as cook their own meals and conduct several experiments regarding shellfish habitat.

Even though the group will have an amazing time it was hard to leave Ryan at the dock and I neededΒ the lure of one more trip to the nearby tulip fields to get me back in the car.

We can track the boat’s course around the islands on marinetraffic.com but I can’t talk to Ryan until we pick him up Sunday evening… it’s hard being out of touch!

You photo just gave me an idea for a poem. It might be dark. But it’s a beautiful photo. And the sailing adventure just makes me jealous. What a great opportunity!

A sea of red. That is a beautiful picture. I recalled the first time I went deep sea fishing. When the Skipper came over to help haul my fish aboard, he took one look at me and could tell I was not feeling too well. After about an hour break and the advice to keep my eyes focused on the horizon, I was fine for the rest of the day. Hopefully the seas will be calm so the sailors don’t spend their time chumming. Letting your kids go out into the world on their own is never easy. In about a month my daughter will be leaving for 27 months in Uganda with the Peace Corps. Excited for her new adventure but not really looking forward to that last hug at the airport.

A few kids were seasick last year but I haven’t heard a report yet from this trip… What an experience for your daughter to spend 27 months with the Peace Corps! But definitely a tough time to get through as a dad.

I hope the trips to the tulip fields manages to ease your angst over leaving Ryan, at least a little bit. Sunday will be here before you know it, and the reunion will be amazing and story-filled!

Lisa, Luv, IF you went through a winter like we did, I am getting on my knees in utter gratitude for the LIFE I see now. This winter was awful and in looking back I don’t know how I made it through. I feel like I have been let out of prison. That and for the first time in a LONG time, I am working with quality lenses. Tee Hee. Yep, like a kid in a candy store? What do I shoot first???? LOL Love, Amy

Thank you and Bless you, Lisa!! I just followed you. Now this is the thing. I love your blog, but I follow SO many blogs that it is hard for me to keep track. But the ones I want in my reader, I make sure they are there. So if this is the second time I followed you, just don’t think twice about it, but know you are NOW in my reader so I can enjoy future posts from you. It takes me forever to get through all the blogs on my reader and then on top of them, I go to other blogs I don’t follow who visit Petals. Yes, hours of being here but no matter where I go, I bring Love and JOY with me and of course my (((HUGS))) Amy (smile)
