Travel Theme: Metal

Metal

For Alisa’s Weekly Travel Theme:  Metal I have a small section of John Fleming’s Grass Blades installation at Seattle Center.  The blades are actually segments of painted stainless steel stacked vertically to emulate the gently swaying movements of grass in the wind.

Wow, double cool. I thought they might just the way the structure looks. What a feeling it must be to actually be there. Thank you for sharing your moment! Love, Amy

They look like old camera film to me. Very pretty.

You’re right, they do look like film strips. The original idea was to screen a parking lot so they fill the length of a city block. It’s pretty cool. 🙂

I love the effect this pic has when I scroll it on my laptop screen – it looks like the metal blades are moving!

How fun, thanks for letting me know! It’s like they simply must move even in a “still” image. 🙂

It’s tucked away almost behind the EMP museum but really worth a walk around the building to find. Standing inside the row of blades and looking up at the sky is such a unique point of view, it made us feel so small.

An amazing sculpture, Lisa. Those blades must be very strong and well fixed. 🙂

Thanks, Sylvia. I’m not sure how they are fixed below ground but I thought the same thing. 🙂

Thank you! All the swaying kind of made me nervous even though it looks really cool at the same time. 🙂
