iPhone Monday 5-26-14

The fourth Monday of each month is Challenger’s Choice at Lens and Pen by Sally’s weekly photo Challenge and I’ve selected architecture so I can show you one more view of the Experience Music Project Museum at Seattle Center.  Gold is the last color in my series after silver, blue, pink and red but I may have one more post to share in a few weeks. 🙂

That’s an interesting combination of structures in one photo 🙂

Thanks, Andy. 🙂 Even though it looks calm it was raining when I took the photo so I had to hurry so my phone wouldn’t fill with water. I’m glad I captured everything here in one shot but if the Monorail was on the track then it would have been even better…

Such a cool museum! Is that a Gehry building?

Your perspective has captured a fascinating combinations of designs. It’s strangely intriguing, especially the materials and textures. Happy Photo Challenge.

My design brain loves the shapes and textures on both structures. 😀

This is a great shot. Love how you made the wooden bit of architecture look so fluid, like its bending right before your eyes. In fact, it looks a bit concave to me, like a gigantic slide 🙂

Thanks, Mabel! The whole building twists, turns and curves around the block. Parts of it definitely look like you could have a great time sliding. 🙂

I like the organinc/mechanical aesthetics of the place. It’s almost sci-fi like.

Not only does it house Paul Allen’s extensive music memorabilia collection it is also home to his sci-fi museum. It’s a pretty interesting place.

We have a very similar crumpled-looking building here in Vegas. It’s a brain research institute. All stainless steel, but lit up with funky lighting at night. Very cool.

They were both designed by Frank Gehry. 🙂 The night lighting must look great reflecting off all that stainless steel.

It is very cool, for sure – but I think I still prefer the unadulterated look of the stainless steel on a bright cloudless day.

this is so Seattle – and the rain you mentioned in one of the comments fits that to the ‘T’. i think that if the monorail had been going past, it might have looked a bit contrived. i think this is great the way it is. what a great capture!

Thanks, Kris! I think you’re right, if the monorail was visible too it might look “too good to be true” and possibly photo shopped into the frame. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing but way outside of my skill set. This is exactly what we saw. 🙂

Love love love it! What a beautiful building. That gold with the patchwork pattern is just as stunning as the shape. Thank you for sharing it… and yes a train on the monorail would have been cool, but this rocks.

Thanks, Meghan! It’s funny that while the full building isn’t my favorite structure I absolutely love the materials and each individual color section. This is the (now) not so secret reason behind why I decided to photograph each color alone instead of one big shot of the entire building. 🙂 I’m glad you’ve enjoyed the posts!
