iPhone Monday 6-30-14

Today’s iPhone challenge is to share a photo that’s processed using apps.  Sally does a great job encouraging every participant in her weekly photo challenges to stretch the boundaries of their comfort zones and try new things with photography so today I decided it was time to finally explore one of the many apps sitting unused on my iPad.   My “waiting to use” app stack is just as scary as my “to be read” stacks of books. 🙂

I have a love-hate relationship with this variety of white Morning Glory.  The flowers are beautiful and they bloom during my favorite time of year but the invasive nature of the vines means they overwhelm my plants in the backyard if I don’t set aside a few hours per week to cut them away from our property line and the neighbors overgrown yard.

I took this photo with my favorite Hipstamatic Lens/Film combination of Jane and Robusta then sat down to really take a look at the editing options available on VSCOcam.   I’ve heard great things about VSCO and am happy with what I could do here but think it will take me awhile before I feel really comfortable using the app.  To finish the image I went back to my tried and true Snapseed for some sharpening and shadow adjustment.

Thanks, Nancy and I’m always happy to talk about my editing processes. Send me a message if you have some questions or maybe we can work out something in person later this year. 🙂

Yes, indeed, I understand your relationship to this sweet flower (especially because it serves hummingbirds and insects). I have a native one that came with my honeysuckle. Fortunately, they do not intermingle. It grows on a fence and after years has listened to my pruning. BUt it still requires too much attention. Your processing gives it a kinder, gentler patina. Well done. Happy Photo Challenge.

Thanks so much, Sally. All on their own I like the plants a lot but get frustrated when they take over their neighbors…

Thanks, Amy this was an impulse photo and I’m happy to hear the editing choices made it work. 🙂 I agree, Snapseed is a lot of fun!

Nicely done, Lisa. There are so many plants that are lovely but invasive, including the Japanese lanterns I used for the challenge today. I like the gentle glow you achieved.

Thanks, Janet I’m glad you like it. Your Japanese lanterns were beautiful today too, I don’t think I’d mind them growing in my yard. 🙂

Great editing; I have a hard time with white flowers, even when I edit, they always look washed out.

Thanks, Angeline and I agree with you white flowers are really tough. I’d still like to see more detail in these but it’s a work in progress. 🙂

This is a very nice photo, Lisa. I like how the morning glory looks very soft. Haha, you have as many apps as books waiting to get your attention. There’s just so many ways to touch-up photos these days and it just adds more fun to photography. You can spend hours on that iPad of yours 🙂

Oh yes, Mable I can spend way more hours than I really have playing with editing. 🙂 Thanks for the nice comment!
