1 Day 1 World Project: 11:00 pm – 12:00 pm

Published by

on

As we get deeper into the late night hours of this project I’m starting to worry a little about finding original material to share.  I have a few things in mind for the seriously late hours but 11:00 pm is just not in my usual comfort zone and while the creative challenge is a great one it’s clashing with my natural state of over planning for everything.  🙂  I’m happy to report we have a few night owls posting their activities here each week so fun posts are rolling in even if mine are a little sleepy for the next few hours.

This week has been particularly busy one though and when I realized it was almost 11:00 pm on a Tuesday I knew I had to make the most of the fact that I was still up. John and Ryan were in bed and I didn’t feel like taking photos of a mid-week mess or going for a drive to see what was happening outside so I started walking around the dark house looking for something interesting to photograph. I know my iPhone native camera isn’t great in low light conditions but I liked how the glow from a small lamp illuminated this painting and decided to experiment with some Hipstamatic filter + lens combinations.  If you have a chance to click on the first image then scroll through it’s a little easier to see how each setting change captured a different element and color palette.  Do you have a favorite?

If you have a photo or story to share about your 11:00 pm hour I’d love to see it!   Please tag your post 1 Day 1 World Project for easy reader searches and/or link your post in a comment below so we can all enjoy the view. Together we’ll build a virtual 24 hour day filled with images from around the world.

If you’re new to the 1 Day 1 World Project please take a look at my introductory post here.  This 11:00 pm post will remain open for submissions until the end of Saturday, July 26th and a new post for the 12:00 pm hour will open for entries Sunday, July 27th.

    I sppose … Burke & Robusta, whatever that means, Lisa. Having ascertained that I can’t find a single Sydney webcam that retains images from the past 12 hours (say), I’m stuffed. Unless Lui Stringer wakes me up, or I wake up meself for a pee of something, I’m not going to be able to do anything with the night hours. Wish I were younger, that’s all I can add.

      I’m glad you like the results from Burke and Robusta, M-R. Burke is from a Seattle themed pack of lens and filters and Robusta is my go to favorite for film choices. 🙂 If you can’t find an image to use maybe you have a story or two to share from a late night hour in the past? We don’t have to be limited to current photos since I know how hard certain times of the day may be to capture. 🙂

      I too must say something, M-R, for I know what you are talking about. Let’s just say I have arrived. Those of the younger group have no clue, yet they will, they will. I thought never not me! HA! Joke is on me. Yep, I am all but too familiar with those um pees. So, M-R, looks like you are not alone. And as for the 11pm challenge, forget it. I cannot even see at that time of the hour. My eyes only have enough strength in them to find my pillow. xx Amy

    I’m reading this post on my iPhone so I have to cluck each image individually rather than scroll through. I kind of like John S + Pistil. The effect reminds me a bit of the Northern Lights (which I’ve never seen in person, mind you, but a definite bucket list item).

      John S + Pistil is my newest find, I’m glad you like it too. 🙂 You’ll love the Northern Lights, Nancy and you can find them from some pretty easy to get to locations. Unless the arctic north is also on your bucket list. 🙂 I grew up in a town about 1 hr south of Vancouver, BC and every couple of years the lights traveled enough that we could see them from our north facing front porch. Truly an amazing sight.

    What a great group of images! I love capturing small, overlooked details. When I scroll through and view them individually, I am attracted to the Labatique images, but when I see the shots in a group, I like the additional teal highlights of the two John S ones. That’s why I agree that these would make a stunning series displayed together!

      Thanks for your comments, D’Arcy it’s great to hear you like different aspects of each filter combination. Outside of the house I’ve found Libatique works great for architecture and the teal/green colors in John S + Pistil are my favorite parts of the duo too. 🙂

      The images are part of one of our many paintings by my aunt, Maryellen Stewart. She is a fantastic artist and our home is full of her work. 🙂 Since the colors here are filtered through Hipstamatic they aren’t really true representations of her finished piece but I like how they document the importance of light and show so many possibilities. Do you see your link now? I just added it to the list. 🙂

I approve them as soon as I can but sometimes there is a delay if I’m working or away from my computer. Hello Lisa-
    This is actually going to be fun… looking at the world in the dark. A chance to play around with night photography.

    Started out listening to sounds of the night… our wetland is almost obscene with bullfrogs croaking. But, trying to get of shot of a frog a night? If anyone has an idea how to accomplish that… I’m willing to take on the challenge :;

    Settled on a still subject instead. The bonus- it will connect to a related photo as we move into daylight hours later…
