Weekly Photo Challenge: Endurance

“Few people know how to take a walk. The qualifications are endurance, plain clothes, old shoes, an eye for nature, good humor, vast curiosity, good speech, good silence and nothing too much.”  Ralph Waldo Emerson

Endurance

We made it to the turn around point of our Klahhane Ridge adventure with nothing more than plain clothes, old shoes and an eye for nature.  Good humor and good silence are how we made our way back down.  Never underestimate the value of a walk.

Agree with the quote, although I won’t make it up there. LOL! Stunning shot and entry Lisa. 😀

Love the Emerson quote, Lisa. And the photo too. Hurricane Road. I bet that was one of the hardest trails up there 😀

Thanks, Mabel. The trail was pretty hard and I believe it or not people make it up there with backpacks filled with enough equipment for weeks of camping. They continue another 20 miles from this spot! Hurricane refers to the hurricane force winds that blow through in the winter… I prefer the sunshine. 🙂

Those people with lots of equipment sound very strong. They must climb uphill terrains quite a bit. I bet you avoided strong winds up there 🙂

It was a pretty calm day, Mabel and I actually found myself wanting more wind to cool us off! Not hurricane strength though…

“Never underestimate the value of a walk.” I never do! By far my preferred form of exercise. 🙂

Mine too, Nancy and you always see something new! We went out last evening for a quick walk along the water and walked past an outdoor wedding right as they said “I do”, then at the middle point of our route saw a pretty white table and chairs set up on our favorite corner of the beach with wildflowers in jars all around. Turns out a nervous guy was planning to propose at sunset! She said yes. 🙂

“Hurricane road, hurricane lodge”, it sounds like a windy place.

This area frequently has wind events that reach hurricane speeds and in 1934 the highest natural surface wind velocity ever officially recorded by an anemometer anywhere in the world was verified at 231 miles per hour! We were there on a calm day. 🙂

True dat. I haven’t been hiking much. Too much heat as California’s suffering from drought. Hopefully the weather gets a little bearable in Fall. Never underestimate the value of walk … love it!

I agree with Emerson – keeping quiet while walking is essential! Otherwise you can end up swallowing a fly or two 😉 Now, seeing those signs to hurricane road and lodge – hmmm- I would venture anyway. A terrific shot, Lisa!

Thank you! I wasn’t sure how to approach this challenge until I found Emerson’s quote, then everything fell into place. Walking usually brings out Ryan’s desire to talk non-stop but I try to convince him to enjoy a little silence in the second half. 🙂
