A Surprise Every Day: Shaking Up April With Hipstamatic (week 2)

Published by

Even though I was away from blogging last week I continued my attempt to take one random photo every day and am here for a quick Sunday night post recapping the past seven days.  Ryan enjoyed a relaxing spring break while I had a great time exploring new ways to structure my time and really thinking about what I want to accomplish between now and the end of the year.  I’ll be back online soon to catch up with all of you and see what’s happened while I’ve been gone!

Easter Sunday was a lovely spring day and we spent most of it eating candy, cooking dinner and watching movies.  Our pan of roasted asparagus is the first image of the week and I couldn’t resist this smiling shot of Finn as my photo for Monday.  Tuesday found me at the grocery store wondering which wine to pick and Wednesday is my view up through the trees in our yard waiting for Finn to sniff around and finish his “business.”  Thursday afternoon I walked past this cheery Easter tree and Friday is a trip back in time with this shot of my mom’s sewing room and some old ballet photos from our high school days.  Only one is of me but you can find plenty of my lovely sister and her friends. 🙂  Saturday morning my dad and I paid an early morning visit to the Skagit Valley Tulip Fields and my first photo of the season is this shot on the edge of a display garden.  Stay tuned for more tulip photos throughout the month of April. 🙂

Each photo is straight from Hipstamatic’s “shake to randomize” function and posted without any additional editing. If you like a particular combination and want to try it at home just click on the image to see the lens and filter used.  If you want to try Hipstamatic but are unsure how to start let me know and I’ll do my best to answer your questions!

Fabulous captures for the week – LOVE the tulips. I look forward to hearing your possible plans for the rest of the year. I gave myself this week to do the same but somewhere along the way I forgot to plan, the first time EVER, but I have to admit, I had the BEST time doing “whatever”, lol! 🙂

I love the photo of the asparagus. It looks delicious and I hope you had enough of it to eat. Also good to hear you had your share of chocolates over Easter…and Ryan didn’t have too many 😉

The asparagus was wonderful, Mabel. We roasted them with balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper – so simple yet full of flavor. 🙂 There was just enough chocolate for me on Sunday and Ryan is great about making things last. 🙂 He’s still working on one last bunny…

Oooh, sounds like you made very tasty asparagus. Yum, yum. More than a week after Easter…sounds like someone got Ryan way too much chocolate and he should get less next year. Then again, there really is never “too much chocolate” 😉

Great images. Particularly the first one of the tulip fields around Skagit is really gorgeous. I have been there a couple of times during the tulip blossom, but didn’t make it this year. Sadly enough.

Thank you for your nice comments, Otto. The tulip fields are pretty this year but blooming really early due to our warm winter. I’ll have more traditional photos to share over the next few weeks but wanted to end my random Hipstamatic week with a shot of pretty spring color. I hope you make it up to see them next year. 🙂

Thanks, Meg. 🙂 Letting Hipstamatic’s random generator shape these daily photos has been a great exercise for me. Now I focus on composition and try to let go of the rest of it. I’ve learned a lot and come up with some combinations I never would have tried on my own. I hope you have as much fun experimenting as I have. 🙂

The tulips are really magnificent, but the pic which really caught my attention is your roasted asparagus. I’ve never done this, so would appreciate a few tips……..asparagus tips. 😀

Ha, good one. 🙂 The asparagus is really easy – just clean as normal, place them on a broiler pan and drizzle with balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper. Roast at 425 close to the top of the oven for about 20 minutes or until done. I hope you like it!
