Sally D’s Mobile Photography Challenge: Street Photography (A Quiet Memorial Day)

iPhone Friday 5-29-15

Most of our downtown businesses were closed Monday in honor of Memorial Day leaving anyone looking for afternoon entertainment with the choice of coffee at Starbucks, some tasty Gelato or the matinee showing of Tomorrowland in a 91-year-old theater.  We went to the movies. 🙂

Brilliant shot, Lisa. Looks like a moment in the good olden days. Hope you enjoyed the movie. I would so have chosen the gelato and sat in a shady spot, and then walk around and take photos 😀

We managed to fit in a little of everything, Mabel but with movie popcorn instead of gelato. 🙂

Would be delighted if the Cardinal walked with me on my photo walks 😀

It was a perfect day for photos but a promise to my son was top on my list. 🙂

Family comes first. I agree with your choice.

We have no movie theatre so a 91 year old one sounds great!

We love our old movie theater, Joanne but your mountain view a is pretty wonderful trade off. 🙂

This scene was ripped straight out of the 1960s. Awesome!

Thanks, Nancy! It was a happy coincidence that the only car was an older model and the two boys walking together were alone on the street. It definitely brings back memories of quieter times. 🙂

Great photo in black and white. I always have such a hard time deciding to go to the movies on a beautiful day. On one hand want to see the movie, but on other hate missing out on the beauty of outside 🙂

Thanks, Angeline. I’d promised Ryan we’d see the movie on the long weekend but as a compromise we walked to the theater (2 miles) so I could spend some time outdoors and we could visit. The best of both worlds in one afternoon. 🙂

P.S. That Mercedes making the turn in the foreground is my dream car 🙂

Lisa, the scene could easily be an image on a vintage postcard. How great that your theater is almost a century. Years ago they raised ours and it was one of the saddest days. Our Main Street has become less than it was. I wish that there was more reverence for keeping the historic ambience. That’s not to say that there was not a public outcry. Progress is not always in the shades of its definition. Happy Photo Challenge.

Thanks, Sally. I always love exploring Main Streets and can’t help but feel a little sad when they’ve been abandoned for newer strip malls… Sorry to hear about your theater. 😦

That makes for an idyllic and quiet weekend. I think that’s all you need aside from having a family get together over a bbq.

You’re right, Bebs a family bbq would be the perfect ending to a quiet weekend. We did cook up some burgers but it was just the three of us. 🙂

What a neat Main Street view- I like how the neighborhood gently slopes away in the distance. It reminds me I haven’t been to Edmonds in about a million years. Is downtown right on the waterfront/by the ferry terminal?

Thanks! Edmonds is a cute little town and you’re right, the downtown is very close to the ferry terminal. This photo was taken at the intersection of Main and 5th Avenue and if you looked downhill to the right Main Street continues onto the ferry.

Thanks, Paula. 🙂 This was another Hipstamatic shot where I set my subject in the frame but let the iPhone app choose all the processing. The results aren’t always what I would have chosen but the project is really making me focus on framing and composition. Sometimes, like this one, it all comes together. 🙂
