A Surprise Every Day: Shaking Up July With Hipstamatic (week 4)

This week’s set of seven photos perfectly illustrate why I love summers in the Pacific Northwest.  The temperatures are generally mild, flowers are in full bloom, gardens are at their peak and the beaches are wide open.  I’m a day later than usual with this recap because Ryan and I just got home from long weekend away but as you can see from the last image we had a fantastic time and my photo files are filled with new ideas and beautiful scenery.

Sunday morning started early but we filled a thermos with hot coffee, picked up a box of donuts and made it to the fishing pier in time for a 7:00 am high tide.  Armed with a crab pot and fishing pole we enjoyed breakfast and good company before heading home with fresh crab for dinner.  Monday night I liked the soft light shining through some heather and Tuesday morning I stopped to snap this little sunflower that’s sprouted along the side of our road.

Wednesday morning Finn and I paused our walk next to this little circle of nut shells and Thursday I finally had a chance to photograph this Intergenerational garden patch next to the Lynnwood Senior Center.  Every year these 4’x4′ boxes are filled with vegetable seedlings and tended by senior citizens and their younger friends as a way to build community and learn about gardening.  Friday Ryan and I boarded the train for a trip south to visit my Aunt, my sister and her family.  Ryan was a great travelling companion and here you see him selecting the perfect playlist to enjoy with some scenery after our lunch in the dining car.  Saturday was a picture perfect afternoon on the coast and we had so much fun it wasn’t until we were on the way home that I realized I hadn’t taken a “random” photo for this post!  My brother-in-law kindly stopped at this scenic viewpoint along Highway 101 and we all jumped out of the car for one last look back at the beach.

I’ve got some laundry to do and dinner to cook but I’ll be back soon to catch up on everyone’s blogs, I can’t wait to see how you’ve spent the past few days!

Each photo was taken with my iPhone 6 using Hipstamatic’s “shake to randomize” function then posted without any additional editing. If you like a particular combination and want to try it at home just click on the image to see the lens and filter used.  For variety I continue to add new lenses and filters so if you want to try Hipstamatic but are unsure how to start let me know and I’ll do my best to answer your questions.

That Sunday morning sounds perfect! Nick and I are heading your way this Wednesday. He’s giving a lecture at the library on the first opera of the 2015 season: Nabucco.

It was a nice start to our week, Julia. 🙂 It’d be fun if Ryan and I could come to the library for Nick’s lecture… I’ll check the calendar!

Fresh crab. That must have been tasty. I absolutely love that and hope it was a great feed 😀 Beautiful photo of the coast, what a scenic ride. I am sure your brother in law wanted to stop anyway to take in the sights 😀 Good luck with the laundry. I never like doing laundry!

That hillside is such a great spot to photograph the Oregon coast. But my fave is the sunflower! Love the bright flower against the muted background.

I’m so happy to hear you like the sunflower D’Arcy. :). I stopped here several days in a row to get a shot I liked but once I saw this version I knew it would be the one. 😀

I love how strong the yellow is on that sunflower. Whattaweek! for you. I only usually do fun things on the weekends. Weekdays are either work, class, or chillax. 🙂

A “sunny” sunflower. 🙂 My work weeks are usually pretty quiet too but I try to mix in a little fun, especially in the summer. 🙂
