My Year In Pictures: January Week 3

Published by

on

The third week of January was a big one for us here as our country transitioned from President Barack Obama to Donald Trump.   While it’s clear that Trump lost the popular vote and the majority of the country remains firmly against his platform we are all waiting and watching, hoping for the best while planning for the worst.  As a result my week was spent focusing on things that matter to us while trying to dial down the digital information overload. I attended my first congressional office open  house to meet our new Representative Pramila Jayapal, Ryan and I set aside time to talk about Martin Luther King’s legacy and we had a great afternoon watching a matinée of Hidden Figures.  I shipped a basket to a new customer in Ireland and snapped a close up of a painting I walk past frequently then captured this one woman waiting and watching as Seattle Police prepared for an evening demonstration/protest against the Trump Administration.  Saturday morning John, Ryan and I joined the Seattle Women’s March and we added our voices and our feet to the more than 600 marches around the world.  If you’d like to see more pictures from the day please take a look at my post about Marching in Seattle.

There’s one more week of this daily photo project so I’ll be back with seven new pictures soon but if you don’t want to wait please join us on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. If you’d like to learn more about any of the images but you don’t follow me on these accounts please feel free to click here for IG, here for Twitter and here for FB or select a photo from the Instagram previews in my sidebar.  You don’t need an account at either place to view my photos, everyone’s welcome.

Hidden figures is SUCH a great movie and the timing couldn’t of been more perfect to be released especially with the way things are going in the world 🙂

A momentous week! I’m trying to keep the good vibes of the march in the forefront of my mind as the backlash of social media hate swirls around us. I guess that’s nothing compared to what the original suffragists went through, right? What a strange time this is turning out to be. Keep the faith! 🙂

Sounds like a varied week with quite a few things going on. So many people at the marches and nice to see everyone standing up for what they believe is best for the world.

Nice to hear the basket had a new home 😊 That art of the woman looks familiar…I’ve seen it somewhere before… 🤔

I wish I’d written down the artist’s name Mabel but I’ll check again the next time I’m there.

Hidden Figures was great Alexandra, I think you’ll really enjoy it. And the movie closes with photos of the real women along with a summary of their incredible accomplishments. Really inspiring.

Hope to see “Hidden Figures” this month. Trying to stick to uplifting entertainment. The real news is horrifying. I cannot believe that I have to put a qualifier with news. We need to take individual action, stay focused and strong.

Seriously, who would have thought we’d need to be defending clear facts and science in our daily lives?! You’ll really enjoy “Hidden Figures” and if it’s in a theater near you “A Monster Calls” was incredible. The way they blend emotion and storytelling with beautiful art shouldn’t be missed. It’s not exactly uplifting (I cried a lot) but I’m so glad I saw it.

Reading this essay yesterday really helped me settle down and focus on how to stay strong while not loosing sight of the urgency of these moments: http://wagingnonviolence.org/feature/urgency-slowing-down/

      Have a wonderful weekend. 🙂

Thanks for the article…in conversations with family and friends, we are trying to determine how we can act. I’m fortunate that our Congressional representatives in Delaware are standing up for justice on all counts.

It’s great to hear your representatives are standing up for their constituants. My parents were invited to a Health Care meeting this morning with Senator Patty Murray (she’s the ranking member on the Health, Labor, Education and Pensions Committee) and her advice to the room was to continue to call congress. They need faces and personal stories to illustrate what these actions mean to real people and the phone calls are having a huge impact. She said don’t give up, call more than just your representatives and never believe the problem is too big for you to have power or a voice. Together we are strong.

We must have hope, and a way to have our voices heard. Indeed, we must continue, and not become complacent.
