My Year In Pictures: February Week 4

We’re almost at the end of the first month in my new year-long challenge and after 27 days of daily photos I am happy to report that it is still fun. 🙂  I’m enjoying the freedom to try some new things after spending a year exploring the random settings in Hipstamatic and looking back at this set of seven photos I can see a definite trend toward softer hues.  Maybe it’s the season, maybe it’s a desire for soft focus after long days filled with challenges but it’s nice to stretch a little and see my world through rose-colored glasses.

Sunday started with heavy spring rains but as soon as the skies cleared I dashed outside to capture my earliest blooming rhododendrons at their peak.  Monday afternoon this sign reminded me of how John and I met and that love can really come from unexpected moments.  Tuesday was long but ended on a nice note with this pretty view of the ferry landing as the sun set.  No fiery colors for me this night just calming hues of blue and gray.   Wednesday Finn reminded me of a stereotypical nosy neighbor as he insisted on peering over the fence to spy on someone and Thursday I picked up my OlloClip to play with shadows in the backyard.  Friday needed a little extra coffee and Saturday John and I each took a deep breath and put our new gym membership to good use.  It’s been far to long since I’ve seriously worked out but new habits just need one day to start so we’re giving it our best shot.  I spent an hour in the cardio room and have to say, it felt great. 🙂

Coming soon I’ve got a great set of new photos almost ready to share here from the first week of March and if you’d like to follow along in real-time I post my daily photos on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. If a once-a-week blog read is more your speed my weekly recaps will continue here along with caption notes containing editing information for each photo.

Sally D’s Mobile Photography Challenge: Macro (Robin’s Egg Blue)

iPhone Wednesday 8-12 Macro

Last week I sat down with this tiny eggshell and my new Olloclip determined to get at least one clear image with the macro lens. Even though the focus isn’t perfect I like the colors and thought the soft pinks added a nice touch.

Posted as part of Sally D’s Mobile Photography Challenge:  Macro.

Sally D’s Mobile Photography Challenge: Macro (Boom!)

iPhone Saturday 7-18 TNT

It’s been a hot dry summer here in the Pacific Northwest and for safety’s sake many towns around the region banned fireworks over the 4th of July weekend but these little boxes of TNT Poppits were apparently ok for the general public to throw at the ground for maximum noise and a bit of exploding fun. Every grocery and convenience store had stacks piled up in the impulse buy sections and a few days before the holiday John and Ryan came home with a bag full of brightly colored boxes. After a night of popping and crackling with three cousins we still have plenty left for New Years Eve 2016 so tonight I sat down with one box, my new Olloclip macro lens and the Hipstamatic App determined to take a clear macro shot in time for Sally D’s Mobile Photography Challenge:  Macro.

A Surprise Every Day: Shaking Up June With Hipstamatic (week 2)

Sometimes these weekly recaps highlight random, un-linked moments from my days and sometimes an unexpected theme emerges.  Flowers, flowers and more flowers filled the second week of June.

We filled our empty deck planters Sunday afternoon and before they were finished I snapped a photo of a few of the bright colors waiting their turn for a new home.  Monday’s image is a picture of a 1920 picture taken in Bellevue, WA from the intersection of Main Street and Bellevue Way.  If you’ve been to Bellevue lately you’ll know this is now prime retail real estate now but I really like the view of the way it was 95 years ago.  Tuesday is a moment from my morning walk and some new flowers blooming along the side of the road.

Wednesday is one more shot of the light pink peonies.  I like the yellow filter treatment and wonder if I can find a variety that actually blooms this color.  Thursday was my birthday and this lovely bouquet was waiting on the table along with my morning coffee. 🙂 Friday’s photo is of my new Olloclip that should provide lots of fun photos this summer.  The clip system includes 4 lenses that add variety to the iPhone native camera with options for wide angle, fish eye and two levels of macro shots.  Saturday I couldn’t wait to try the fisheye lens and combined it with my Hipstamatic selection to show a garden path in our backyard.

Each photo was taken with my iPhone 6 using Hipstamatic’s “shake to randomize” function then posted without any additional editing. If you like a particular combination and want to try it at home just click on the image to see the lens and filter used.  For variety I continue to add new lenses and filters so if you want to try Hipstamatic but are unsure how to start let me know and I’ll do my best to answer your questions.

I’ll be packing and traveling the rest of this week and won’t post new material until next week but will do my best to respond to comments and questions as I can.  I’m looking forward to returning soon with plenty of new material and some interesting random shots of where I’ve been!
