2019 The Year of Pollen and Pretty Flowers: Week 13

If you’ve ever tried to complete a year-long photo project you know each week brings a new challenge and today’s post is my answer to the seasonally specific question “what do I share when the focus of my blog is an outdoor PNW lifestyle but the arrival of spring means I can’t be outside because of the sneezing?” This is the third time I’ve set myself up to share a year’s worth of daily photos and while I might want to say I’ll only take and share pics from indoors until allergy season passes the truth is I need better choices or you’ll all leave me for more interesting reading.  Plus, the inside of my house is boring and spring in the Pacific Northwest is really lovely.  It would be a shame to not share.

This year I decided to risk the pollen induced sneezing and in one fast-snapping tour of the yard collected 6 images of what’s blooming now to create a fresh post all about flowers.  Our late start to spring meant the morning I made my flower dash there weren’t 7 interesting plants blooming so the begonia close up is from last summer. I like to think of the final result as a digital, sneeze free, bouquet.

All images were taken with my iPhone and edited in VSCO.  If you’re interested in more detail please click through each image individually as I’ve captioned them with the specific filter presets used within the app.

My Year In Pictures: August Week 1

At first glance this week’s photos look like a typical set of my daily random images and on the surface that’s true but with a little more background they really tell the story of what’s been occupying our time and how we’re trying to capture some feel-good summer moments in the middle of our busy days.

When we moved into this house 7 years ago I was excited to see little clumps of anemones spread across the backyard but it didn’t take long to realize they are really invasive and grow even faster when you try to pull them out.  Lesson learned, now I sit on my hands instead of reaching out and yanking up the fresh shoots and I’m trying to re-appreciate their pretty pink flowers.  Monday afternoon Ryan and I finally made it to our favorite coffee shop and on the way out we walked past this little flag pin stuck in a tree trunk.  Tuesday’s shot is a sad view of John’s trusty Subaru.  This was a great car that served him well for over 10 years but it wasn’t a match for the dreaded “rush hour accident on the freeway”.  He was hit from behind by a distracted driver and after a thorough inspection we received the bad news that his car is a total loss. 😦   Shopping for a new (to us) car wasn’t on my list of things to do this summer however and coming only a few months after we had to replace my car made the process even more painful.

Life goes on though and Wednesday I posted this photo of a new UPF Scarf in our Etsy shop.  We’ve kept to our schedule of introducing a few new things every couple of weeks so the shop stays fresh and interesting while behind the scenes we are working hard to finish some fun Halloween items and new cold weather accessories.  For a change of pace Thursday’s photo is of our collection of beach walking sticks resting by the back door.  Each stick came from a memorable walk with Ryan and seeing them together reminds us of fun times in the past and fun times yet to come.  Friday’s shot is also from our back deck and highlights one of my favorite begonias.  Our week ended Saturday night with our 22nd Wedding Anniversary!  To celebrate we visited this amazing distillery close to home and tasted award-winning, scratch made gin and vodka. 🙂

I’ve got a great set of new photos almost ready to share here from our latest adventures and if you’d like to follow along in real-time don’t forget I post my daily photos on InstagramTwitter and Facebook.  If a once-a-week (or two) blog read is more your speed my weekly recaps will continue here along with caption notes containing editing information for each photo.

My Year In Photos: June Week 3

What a week!  The third week of June flew by in a flash only slowing to note Father’s Day, the first day of summer, the last day of school and the start of Ryan’s trip to spend some quality time with his Grandparents.

We enjoyed a quiet Father’s Day and loved our picture perfect start to summer the next day with sunny skies, 70 degrees and just enough time to relax outside before dinner.  Tuesday morning Finn and I walked past this sad note on our street and Wednesday was Ryan’s last day of school.  With everything he’s been through this year and more than 2.5 months of absences after his injury I am incredibly proud of him for finishing his first year of high school on a strong note.  The occasion called for celebration and he chose Mod Pizza for lunch with Mom. 🙂

Thursday morning I found this colorful snail resting on some rocks, Friday afternoon I stopped to snap a shot of these pretty red berries in a forest of green and Saturday was the start of Ryan’s long-awaited solo vacation and major spoiling time with Grandma and Grandpa.   Mom’s garden looks much nicer than mine these days so I’m ending the week with a pretty shot from her backyard.

Coming soon I’ve got a great set of new photos almost ready to share here from our latest adventures and if you’d like to follow along in real-time don’t forget I post my daily photos on InstagramTwitter and Facebook. If a once-a-week blog read is more your speed my weekly recaps will continue here along with caption notes containing editing information for each photo.
