1 Day 1 World Project: 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm

The late afternoon/early evening hours are my favorite times of day and since we’ve had a stretch of absolutely beautiful June weather the toughest part of today’s post was choosing which photo to share.  In the end I settled on this shot from Brackett’s Landing because even though Herons are a common sight in our part of the Pacific Northwest this is the first time I’ve successfully captured one on film.

The Heron remained in this spot hunting for its dinner while ignoring  the families playing and freight trains clattering behind us.  I lost track of how long we stood here watching but Ryan and I couldn’t leave the beach for home and our own dinner until we saw a successful catch.

It’s been so much fun to watch this series grow in popularity and a quick view of my stats revealed the project introduction is already my second most viewed post of the past 12 months.  Quite a feat considering it’s only been up for six weeks!  Last week was really entertaining and we saw entries from Slovenia, England and Australia as well as the US States of Washington, Oregon, California, and Texas. If you have a photo or story to share about your 5:00 pm hour I’d love to see it!   Please tag your post 1 Day 1 World Project for easy reader searches and/or link your post in a comment below so we can all enjoy your view. Together we’ll build a virtual 24 hour day filled with images from around the world.

If you’re new to the 1 Day 1 World Project please take a look at my introductory post here.  This 5:00 pm post will remain open for new submissions until the end of Saturday, June 14th and a new post for the 6:00 pm hour will open for entries Sunday, June 15th.

Thanks so much, Allan. I was really surprised by how patient this one was, it ignored all the activity on the beach and didn’t fly away until after dinner. The only reason I was able to get a shot. 🙂

Consider yourself VERY fortunate because Herons do NOT sit still. Look up what Heron means metaphysically. I do believe he has just become your “animal totem”. You may be surprised what Heron means. (smile) (((HUGS))) Amy

Funny that you and Lisa should mention how difficult it is to photograph herons – I always think of them standing stock still and one of the easiest birds to capture. Maybe I have just been lucky! Here’s one of mine in Vancouver’s Stanley Park.
