I guess a series of 24 posts coming together exactly as planned was too much to hope for and I should really be feeling lucky I’ve made it through the first 16 hours without anything going seriously wrong but I can’t help but be a little frustrated by this one… Maybe it serves me right for thinking we were through the hardest part.
The past few weeks of late night posts have been fun because I knew we could go back to bed for a quick nap before starting the day but this week I thought it would be best to just stay up and keep moving. Since I can’t think of getting up for real without a big cup of coffee one of the thirty Starbucks in town seemed like the perfect place for an early morning photo. A quick internet search found several that open at 4:30 am so the plan was to get up Thursday morning for a Venti Latte and a few photos before heading home for an early workout and a great start to the day. Unfortunately a stomach bug kept me hiding under the covers until well after 4:30 and when Friday came and went I still didn’t feel well enough to even think of coffee let alone get up early so by Saturday morning the pressure was on. I set the early alarm one more time and at 4:20 John and I set out in search of hot coffee and blueberry scones only to find a locked front door instead of a warm coffee shop waiting for us. Yes, they open at 4:30 Monday – Friday but it looks like Saturday is for sleeping in and they don’t open until 5:00 am.
I took one blurry photo of the closed drive through lane and blame my lack of caffeine for the out of focus sign. Feeling sorry for ourselves, I took another photo of our empty Starbucks cups once we got home.
I hope your early morning hours were happier than mine this week and if you have a photo or story to share about your 4:00 am hour I’d love to see it. Please tag your post 1 Day 1 World Project for easy reader searches and/or link your post in a comment below so we can all enjoy the view. Together we’ll build a virtual 24 hour day filled with images from around the world.
If you’re new to the 1 Day 1 World Project please take a look at my introductory post here. This 4:00 am post will remain open for submissions until the end of Saturday, August 30th and a new post for the 5:00 am hour will open for entries Sunday, August 31st.

At least you have John to keep you company. I know my husband will just continue sleeping and leave me to my own harebrain overnight project XD

He was a little grumpy but still good company. 🙂 Best of luck with your own harebrain ideas!

ohhh – I hadn’t thought of that problem when contemplating this week’s challenge. You’re right – it will be rather hard to go back to bed after this time slot. Hmmm. I might need to be re-think my strategy for this week.
I hope you are feeling better now! … and happily sipping your Starbucks 🙂

I have to confess that I am struggling with this time period – “you are a better man than I am, Gunga Din!”
I’ll keep on thinking! Unfortunately my man stays firmly under the duvet!

I do feel pretty lucky that he was willing to get up with me but I think it was more because he knew I was going to wander the streets alone if he didn’t get out of bed. 🙂

Such dedication, Lisa! Your hubby is such a sport to join in your early morning project. Sorry about the Starbucks being so inconsiderate. Glad you’re feeling well again. 🙂

Thanks, Sylvia it was really nice of him to go with me. 🙂 A few good nights of sleep and very little food were enough to take care of this bug. Thank goodness!

Nobody can accuse you of not trying, Lisa! And I rather like your main photo. I don’t think you’re capable of taking a bad one with your eyes shut. 🙂 Hope you’re feeling a bit more like yourself now. I’m up around 6 most days so I’ll soon be back 🙂

What a sad tale of coffee thwarted … but a wonderful, moody photo of a *$ (as I call it) asleep.

What a nice idea. It reminds me of the work titled “the clock”. It’s a 24 hour film stitched together from scenes of other films in which every frame has a clock in it showing the (real) time ebb along second by second. The film is played real time with the audience, so that 2:42a.m. in the movie corresponds to the exact time the audience is watching in the theater or studio, thus the film is 24 hours.
I will eventually contribute!

I’m so sorry you were sick! I trust you are better now. And I HATE that when the early morning coffee places are closed. 😦 But you did get a shot (which is symbolically blurry since who isn’t at 4:30 am?) and the empty cups were a bonus! At least this hour of the day if over!

Funny, but I thought the photos looked better for the absence of detail on the shop sign… after all they weren’t there when you needed them – do they deserve advertising?! 😀 😉 Lisa, take care of yourself. I know you are smart, but your health comes first.

I agree, Paula it was a blurry kind of morning so it makes sense that the shot was out of focus. 🙂 Thanks for your concern, it was a three day bug and I’m back to normal now. 🙂
