Weekly Photo Challenge: Inside

Published by

I don’t know what it is about small spaces that pulls children inside, ready to play, hide or even relax. I was one of those kids who didn’t like being squished into someplace small but as you can see, Ryan and his cousin Emma have been doing it for years. Our campground on Sucia Island was full of cliff side caves carved into the sandstone by waves and wind and they wanted to climb up into them every day pretending to be explorers and spying on the parents.

Away from the islands and in the middle of Seattle they still managed to find a small cave-like space to rest and watch the Penguins in the middle of a busy afternoon at the Woodland Park Zoo.

What fun photos, like your son I loved being tucked away curled up unseen in small spaces as a child…..even better if it was up high and gave a secret view of the adults! I loved to sneak out of bed and to sit at the corner of our stairs peeping down into hall watching the adults when my parents had house parties 🙂

Oh yes, good memories of hiding at the top of the stairs here too! I’m glad you like these photos today. 🙂

Great photos for inside! I think maybe as kids we still feel quite safe in small spaces.

Yes, I think so too. 🙂 More on their scale and not as overwhelming as big open spaces can be.

This reminds me of the time when Sophia made herself a cozy bed inside a diaper box not much bigger than her own little 2-year-old body. I think it’s the big-kid version of swaddling.

Aha! I knew one of those photos was taken on Sucia Island! We anchored there for a night aboard The Catalyst on a San Juan Island expedition. Once seen, those sandstone formations are not soon forgotten. It felt like we were sailing through a modern art museum. A geologic place of wonder…

Sucia is amazing, I’m glad you had such a great experience there! We boated in and tent camped for 4 days and had a wonderful time exploring the island and relaxing on the beaches. The caves were the kids destination place every day. 🙂
