Weekly Photo Challenge: Saturated

Every year I find at least one place to plant this combination of ferns and red begonias. I enjoy almost every color variety of begonia but non stop red has claimed the top spot as my favorite with the maidenhair fern. This pot spent most of the summer in a shaded spot by our back door but it had a week in the sun while we prepped the house for painting. A few of the leaves have some sun damage but the plants are still healthy and will keep going strong until the first frost.

Wow, the colors are so rich! Reminds me of the lovely colors Fuji Velvia and Kodachrome used to give.

  Thanks! I like the colors too and thought it would be enough to qualify for saturated, Kodachrome is a great comparison. 🙂 I used Hipstamatic to take it and Snapseed for additional framing.

    Just took a look at Hipstamatic. Intiguing stuff that. It’s good to be reminded there IS life outside of Photoshop.

    Yes there is. 🙂 I really like Hipstamatic because it reminds me of film photography. You choose your lens and “film” first, then take the shot instead of an overwhelming number of editing choices after.

    That’s a great thought about film vs digital. I’m somewhat of an absolutist or Luddite or old-fashioned holdout where digital photography is concerned. I try to only do in Photoshop what you could do in a darkroom. (don’t want Photoshop to be a crutch or substitute for poor technique).

    I love begonias because they do grow with the space you give them. Unfortunately mine don’t do well with the winter frost here and they’ll be slowly disappearing year after year.

  We almost chose red but now that more of the trees are gone we are painting a dark gray with white trim and navy blue accents and front door. Yellow is very pretty too, there are two yellow houses on our street. Another color that was on my wish list. 🙂

Great perception. I love the contrast. I’ve done this with my red geraniums too in a cobalt blue container next to wood fern. On grays days the red really pops. Thanks for sharing Lisa
