A Word A Week: Silhouette

Silhouette

Sue’s latest word of the week over at A Word in Your Ear is Silhouette.   I’ve posted a smaller image of this tree before but thought the contrast of the dark leafless branches against the bright white sky was worth a second look today. Unfortunately the tree died last year and was removed to make way for our new driveway but we still have some good photos and several branches are getting a new chance to shine as part of our Halloween decorations.

Although I’m not looking forward to our trees looking like that come December, your photo is wonderful. 🙂

Thanks Carrie! Believe it or not this picture was taken in May. We were finally certain it was dead when there wasn’t a single leaf bud so far into the season…

Yikes, if I saw that in May I’d never want to get out of bed. 🙂

I think darkening the tree was the best idea. It really makes the image look more graphic and a little creepy!

Thanks Jasmine! I actually have two versions of this photo taken a day apart and the second one was on a bright sunny day. The sky is so blue and the tree looks very silver. Not as creepy though!

Well then it’s not as good. Creepy is better! LOL

Very cool shot! I like how the tree curves on one side.

It had a great twisty shape to the trunk and branches!

I like how it appears ‘alive’. Like it’s some sort of creature with lots of tentacles.

What a great photo.!! A little scary and ethereal. The tree almost looks like a person.!

Thanks Rose! It definitely had enough personality, and stubborness to be a person. 🙂

A few years back I tried to shoot a tree like this but it didn’t turn out anywhere as good. You nailed this.

Thanks. 🙂 I took a lot to get this one too… I can’t keep from trying but so many of them don’t turn out. When one works though it is all worth it!
