Weekly Photo Challenge: Street Life

A place reveals itself on its streets, from pedestrians strolling during lunch time, to performers entertaining tourists on sidewalks, to the bustle of local markets, and more. Whether youā€™re shoveling snow from your own driveway or walking a familiar route to work or getting lost in a foreign city, a snapshot of a street (or road or path) can tell a tale.

Street Life 1

The Edmond’s Farmer’sĀ Market is usually full of happy shoppers visiting with friends and neighbors while filling their bags with locally grown flowers and vegetables. Ā  This foggy September morning was much quieter than normal though and the change inĀ weather and light made it feel like the first weekend of fall instead of the last weekend of summer. Ā I couldn’t help but notice everyone seemed lost in their own thoughts.

Including thisĀ flower vendor standing alone under his green canopy…

I love those open air markets, we have them here in Chicago during the Summer but they have gotten expensive esp. now that our local grocery stores are trying to buy from the local farmers too.

That would certainly drive up the prices but probably provides a nice income for your local farmers. I’m looking forward to the start of our market season but hope prices are close to last year…

Thanks Nancy. šŸ™‚ I used one of my favorite Hipstamatic combinations and then adjusted the colors a little with Snapseed.

The people do seem pensive. Your faded color treatment really helped to convey the mood you were getting across. Nice! I’m having such fun seeing everybody’s street life.

I’ve really liked seeing everyone’s street photos too. šŸ™‚ I’m glad you like the softer colors here. This foggy day was such a change from the bright summer markets I think the misty colors really contributed to the moody shoppers.

I like the first photo the most – the diversity of people that you captured really grabbed the essence elf the street market. Like the lady in the dar right – is she calculating her list? Then we have the bags in tow, the folks with hands in pocket as if on a stroll – and then is that a “power walker” too? well it is such a nice snapshot and says so much – and the second one – well the flowers take the show in that oneā€¦ to me at least. šŸ™‚ great entry for the challengeā€¦.

Thanks for your comments. šŸ™‚ I agree that the first one tells most of the story and if I had to only post one photo this would be it. I liked the second to illustrate the point but I don’t think it can stand alone like the first.
