iPhoneography Challenge: Macro (cork it)

Pinterest is full of crafty projects using old wine corks and while I’ll admit there was a time last year when I thought it might be fun to make something I can’t seem to get past the “save the corks” stage.   Our bags of corks may never grace the walls as a DIY bulletin board but they made a great subject for Lens and Pen by Sally’s weekly phoneography challenge:  Macro.

Wine corks and wine labels can be wonderful little pieces of art. Love the lighting in the macro – especially with the beautiful purple on the ends of the corks.

It’s nice to hear I’m not the only one who appreciates the art on corks and labels. 🙂

Marvelous choice of subjects for macro week. You were able to take those corks, and make them into an invitation for enjoyment in a whole new way. Well done. Happy Photo Challenge.

Thanks, Sally it’s nice to hear you like the corks as a macro subject. I’ll raise my glass toward you in a cross-country invitation tonight. 🙂

Love this. I’ve just gotten into Pinterest; I’ll have to go look at wine cork art things. I used to save corks, but no more. I also really like corks and also wine bottle labels….and the wine 🙂

We can’t get past the saved corks stage, either, but this photo is ever so much better than any cork board! Beautiful color and details!

I agree, D’Arcy. 😉 We’ll probably never get a cork board but I can fill a few bowls with them for decoration. 🙂

Oh KLisa – in my reader – the purple hue just popped – and the artsy feel to this macro is so nice – and I like seeing the logos. In the 1990’s I knew a bunch of folks who said these corks would be obsolete – and plastic ones would be everywhere – but it looks like plenty of real cork is still going strong – and I think that is a good thing – and I bet natural cork may yield some bad bottles – but it also probably lets the wine breathe in a sealed state unlike plastic ever could.

We get a plastic cork every once in awhile, Yvette but not as often as I would think after all the talk about cork trees. It’s great to hear you like the photo!

yeah – and I bet plastic is not the same and is not better – who knows… 🙂

And the opening of the wine to get the corks is the best part! Michelle makes Christmas wreaths out of her corks! I am also earning free wine Saturday volunteering at the winery in Woodinville. Love the picture!

I thought of you and your wine adventures when I posted this one, Tony. 🙂 Have fun volunteering, Saturday! I meant to sign up for that winery club after your last volunteer post but haven’t made it back to finish the application/order form yet… I’ll do it soon!

We buy most of our wine through Garagiste’s daily email offer and pick up orders every few months so my list of favorites is always changing. 🙂 I have Dusted Valley bookmarked to check out, their story and reviews look wonderful!

I like them both for the people in the tasting room and the wines they make. They have one offered this spring named ” Squirrel Toothed Alice ” named after a lady of ill repute from the old west. VR Special, named after the cookies one of the makers grand pas made when he was a kid, and BFM ( you will have to as them about that one! ).

You will not get corks though, they believe in screw caps which makes it easier to open, but does not detract from the taste. If you go into the Woodinville tasting room, tell them I sent you. Won’t save any money, but wil, let them know you are family 🙂

They sound like my kind of winery, Tony and I like screw caps too. 🙂 We’ll be sure to pay the tasting room a visit and I’ll drop your name. 🙂

Apparently there are a lot of uses for corks besides sitting in drawers, Janet but mine might just be best as photo subjects. 🙂 Thanks for your nice comments!
