Weekly Photo Challenge: On The Way To Klahhane Ridge

On The Way

Last August John, Ryan and I spent four days exploring The Olympic National Park and even though I was recovering from a summer cold we thought a hike along Klahhane Ridge would be a great way to celebrate our 20th anniversary.  I really felt the effects of being sick but we kept moving and by the end of the day my Fitbit logged over 11 miles and the equivalent of 264 flights of stairs!  The final 1.4 miles and 1400 foot elevation gain was a killer but I’m happy to report we made it to the day hiker turnaround in plenty of time for a picnic lunch and a big bag of Peanut M&M’s.

This photo is from one of many rest points along the way and posted as part of the Weekly Photo Challenge.

Gorgeous view! Now can we talk about how you celebrated your anniversary?? I mean, for me, a glass of champagne followed by a lovely dinner is my speed 🙂 Of course, that will likely explain why you are probably very physically fit and I’m not! 😉

We thought it would be a memorable day but not quite this hard. 🙂 By dinner time the three of us were so tired and dirty we crashed in our hotel room with a nice view of the water and sunset, opened a bottle of wine we brought from home and ordered everything we wanted from room service. A picnic with a view!

Wow, this reminds me of the Alps (where I have never been, but still). Gorgeous! Makes me feel like hiking even though I’m not much of a climber!

The first part of the hike is beautiful and not much of a climb. It’s worth the trip if you have a chance to visit the peninsula. 🙂

I’ve always really liked that trail, I took my youngest on part of it when he was about a month old (though we didn’t log as many miles as you did) and we were showing out-of-town family how amazing it is up there. The ending of your day back at the hotel sounds perfect (for us, just substitute carry-out from Westside Pizza in Port Angeles)!

We’ll have to try Westside Pizza the next time we’re in Port Angeles. 🙂 What a beautiful way to introduce guests to the Pacific Northwest!

Wow! Thanks for sharing, because I don’t think I’d make it up there…not without a sedan chair and a team of fit young blokes to carry me!

Thanks, Ruth. 🙂 I think the hike kicked the last of my cold but it took our feet a few more days to recover. 🙂
