The last two days of August and the beginning of September passed through the Pacific Northwest with a season changing storm that’s rare for this time of year. Usually our summer continues for another six weeks and we count on a September filled with pretty fall color, cool nights and sun warmed afternoons but this time around I think our record-setting year is taking a turn for the worse. Thunder and lightning have followed me around town all week, we’re making up our rain deficit and I’ve brought out my cold weather sweatshirts and fleece jackets.
Sunday’s photo shows just how damaging our wind storm was last Saturday. Monday morning was calm but wet so Finn and I bundled up for our daily walk. His favorite activity besides chasing squirrels is to jump up on the highest thing he can find and this retaining wall is where he earned his mountain goat nick name. Tuesday night Ryan and I were shopping for a new back pack and this garden gnome wouldn’t stop watching us…
Wednesday morning found me waiting in a small lobby while my car got an oil change and Thursday afternoon I walked past my favorite wine bar wishing it was late enough in the day to stop for a glass. Friday I placed my first order through Amazon’s new Prime Now delivery service and even though our zip code is outside of the 1 hour delivery radius my order still arrived in the shockingly fast time of 1 hour and 15 minutes. If you live close to a distribution center its great! You might have to be a football fan to appreciate Saturday’s photo but the sign above the Edmonds Theater made us laugh yesterday. Along with announcing the current movie it says “Tom Brady Special – Half Full Popcorn and Two Flat Sodas.” The owners must not be New England Patriot Fans. 🙂
Each photo was taken with my iPhone 6 using Hipstamatic’s “shake to randomize” function then posted without any additional editing. If you like a particular combination and want to try it at home just click on the image to see the lens and filter used. For variety I continue to add new lenses and filters so if you want to try Hipstamatic but are unsure how to start let me know and I’ll do my best to answer your questions.
That really looked like a bit of a storm on Monday. Poor trees. Rug up, hopefully it stays a bit warmer for a bit. It might be our fault in the southern hemisphere…we’re getting some warm weather this week 🙂 Hope Ryan found a backpack he likes. I’m currently looking at buying a backpack myself too. Can’t decide 😀

We’ll warm up in a few days, Mabel and hopefully the storms will hold off until true fall arrives and leaves are off the poor trees. Ryan found a great backpack, good luck with your search. 🙂

Love the humor in the Tom Brady Special!!!
We have had some crazy weather, that is true. PDX may have some 80+ days next week… but I won’t hold my breath 🙂

I’m glad I could share the humor, Jane! I remember some 100+ October days in Portland but upper 70’s were really the best. 🙂

The uprooted trees are amazing! Looks like you could just pop them upright again tack down the sod. Your new layout looks nice!

The stumps were popped back in along with the sod but the trees didn’t make it. :(. Glad you like my theme change!

That’s a strong storm. Staying safe in such storms can often just be a matter of good luck.
