I don’t know why the month of May always ends with everyone in our house sick but once again we’ve spent the last 7 days suffering through a cold that simply will. not. end. Sick or not life must go on and our week was full of some nice weather, end of the year school activities and a chilled bottle of wine. 🙂
Sunday afternoon Ryan and both felt the beginnings of a cold but we ran to the local Hardware store for a few supplies and sure enough by Monday my head was so congested looking up made me feel dizzy. I snapped a photo of some trees anyway then sat down for a little rest… Tuesday I realized Ryan has outgrown all his summer clothes and needed a swimsuit asap for a school activity so off I went to the mall.
When was the last time you saw a working pay phone? Now I can say Wednesday, June 3rd. Thursday I came home to a very bored dog but once I changed out of work clothes, gathered up the leash, treats, and plastic bag all Finn wanted to do was sit in the sun and hunt for bugs. Fine with me! Friday night we celebrated the end of the work week with a chilled bottle of Rose from Sleight of Hand Cellars named by Seattle Magazine as one of the “next cult wineries of Washington State” and Saturday morning started our weekend with a trip to the farmer’s market for fresh fruit and vegetables. We’ve worked our way through several boxes of tissues, plenty of decongestants and gallons of water but I think everyone is on the mend and ready for a productive week ahead.
Each photo was taken with my iPhone 6 using Hipstamatic’s “shake to randomize” function then posted without any additional editing. If you like a particular combination and want to try it at home just click on the image to see the lens and filter used. For variety I continue to add new lenses and filters so if you want to try Hipstamatic but are unsure how to start let me know and I’ll do my best to answer your questions.
Last time I saw a working pay phone was May 28, 2015. It was at the Old Town/Chinatown MAX stop in Portland. Not only that, but a guy came up and actually used it. I was blown away.

Oh wow, it’s been years since I’ve seen someone use one. And they used to be so common we didn’t even notice… Now it’s a sighting to remember.

Sorry to hear about the colds. Summer colds are miserable. Right up there with a summer stomach bug!
Love the colors in the hardware store pic.

I think stomach bugs are worse than colds but they are both pretty rotten. :(. If I had a bigger car a few of those brightly colored chairs would have come home with us. 🙂

Pay phones, BC Tel used to have them everywhere before Telus took over, then with the evolution of cell phones they decided to take them all down here in Vancouver. I think I spotted one or two still in the downtown core, but with those I can see why the phone companies won’t go near lol

I know I was surprised to see one in such good condition. Didn’t think it was worth he money to keep them up and running but it must pay its way here.

Sounds like a busy week nonetheless. Productive. So sorry to hear about you and Ryan getting sick. Must be the change of seasons. I can’t seem to shake this cold I’ve been having for the last two weeks, very annoying. Then again, it’s winter here. Enjoy the sunshine lots 🙂

Hope you’re all feeling better now, Lisa. Yes pay phones just seemed to disappear almost unnoticed. I’ve seen a couple in South Africa, but don’t know if they still work. Enjoyed your photos as always. 🙂

Sorry the family has been sick…… and there’s nothing worse than a summer cold (I realize it’s not technically summer but it sure feels like it with these 80 degree days). Gosh, I don’t think I’ve ever drank a rose wine. One of my sisters takes a lot of good-natured ribbing because that’s all she drinks is rose wine.

It sure does feel like summer right now, 90 this afternoon in Bellevue… A dry, chilled rose sounds tonight perfect. 🙂

Over here, most of the old pay phones have been converted to free wifi zones, so they still do exist. Not sure what Superman would think of it though. 🙂

A faster change maybe? 😉 Free wifi zones is a great idea.
